Jan’24 Edition: Gift Ideas for the Home

Check out the latest recommendations to sprucing up your home! This edition is focused on improving the quality of life with some essential tools. They might not seem much like gifts but most likely, people don’t think to get these for others (and sometimes themselves) and you avoid gifting something that someone already has!

Air Purifier

Who enjoys being stuff all the time? Allergies are more and more common in people. For over a decade, I have gone to multiple allergists that have all told me to invest in an air purifier. If you have any allergies (which most of you likely do), improve your quality of life by investing in this for at least your bedroom, which is where you spend at least 30% of your life (from sleeping).

I personally hate going to bed stuffy and this helps me to breathe better before and during sleep. If you have pets, I also highly recommend investing in more than one of these. You will have to periodically change the filters in the purifier. I recommend ordering an extra to have on-hand.

Dehumididifer

Even if you live in a dry place, this is a must! You will be shocked how much water is actually in your house. Dehumidifiers pull the moisture out of the air, making it drier. They can help prevent mold growth and dust mites which thrive on humid environments. If you live in a humid environment, I would recommend getting multiple, one for each bedroom at the very least.

Personally, I was surprised how much water is in my house. We are emptying our tank every week, even during the “drier” months. I am relieved to know that this device is working so that I am less worried about mold growth.

We keep ours permanently on night mode which means low speed operation which makes the noise not noticeable. This dehumidifier is so quiet that we can keep ours near our bedroom without being disturbed. It does beep and turn red when the tank needs to be emptied. It will also turn off automatically when the tank gets full.

Water Flosser

I used to think these were too expensive of a replacement for floss. I tried one for the first time this year and already noticed healthier gums. Don’t wait until dental issues arise to invest in this as you only get one set of adult teeth! Dental issues can be the most painful and costly expense. I personally have spent more in dental than in medical due to bad habits in my youth (and genetics causing faster build up).

Seriousness aside, this is a fun and quick tool to help prevent more frequent dentist visits. I like this Water Pik since it is compact and does not take up too much room in my bathroom counter. It has a decent size water reservoir so I don’t have to refill every use. There is a knob to adjust the water speed in case you have sensitive gums.

There is a tooth brush version that my significant other uses and enjoys but believes the water flosser standalone is better so that you can choose a better electric toothbrush.

I also bought the travel edition but agree with many reviews that while its cute, it’s not as practical. If you break the head, you have to replace the entire device which is much more costly. It also does not have a lid so your water is exposed or you have to empty and fill it every time if you prefer not to have water sit uncovered. However, the travel edition is sleek and compact!

Cat Litter Robot

Whether you have one cat or multiple, this device is amazing for your indoor kitties. Unless you love cleaning out the litter box, this is an amazing gift for cat parents. Instead of cleaning the litter box nearly every day, this litter robot can keep the litter box clean for a full week.

It is a smart appliance that rotates the litter into a container and sorts out the solids into another container below. We clean ours out once a week. It senses when the cat is inside so it will not rotate while they are doing their business and recognizes when the cat exits (based on weight). It also comes with an app that tells you if the machine was paused for any reason. Our cat is very curious and likes to jump in their while its rotating, but the litter robot is designed so that it stops even during a rotation.

Our friends who own three cats love this. Since they have multiple cats, they clean theirs about once every few days. They love it because it helps save them from cleaning so frequently and makes their cat litter last longer.

We have the Litter Robot 3, but there is a new version out that we haven’t tried yet. They have a Litter Robot 4 bundle deal on Litter Robot’s website.
